Top 3 Early Questions Concerning the NBA Season

Now two weeks into the season, the initial excitement for meaningful basketball has slowly withered away and now focus can be put on who is doing what throughout the league. Here are the top three questions concerning the fresh NBA Season:

from Dawk Ins

#3) Is Anthony Davis the front-runner for MVP?

What I really wanted to ask was, “is Anthony Davis human?” but I calmed down and settled on this. The Pelicans third year big from Kentucky has had a monstrous start to the season, currently being in the top five of four out of five major statistical categories (points [4], rebounds [1], blocks [1] and steals [5]). the only true road block in front of this juggernaut is whether he can stay healthy and carry his team to the playoffs, both of which he hasn’t done in his first two years. If he can be the leader for this team and get them through the post-season glass ceiling, then he’ll be adding an MVP trophy to his resume.

Wizards v/s Warriors 03/02/11

#2) How good are the Warriors really?

Getting off to a hot start, the gunslingers known as the Golden State Warriors have put the league on notice winning games against the playoff hopeful Rockets, Clippers, Blazers and Kings. They currently are shooting the best field goal percentage in the league offensively, and at the same time allowing the least field goal percentage defensively, plus the league’s leading scorer in Stephen Curry. That is the combination for a serious title contender. But with four players shooting above 40% from beyond the arc, can they maintain this level of solid and consistent shooting? The old phrase “live by the three, die by the three” still holds true, and there may come a time when they face a shooting slump and adversity, so we’ll have to wait a few months to see whether this team will still be in the title hunt.

injured thunder

#1) Could the Thunder tank the season?

The injury bug has infected the entire Oklahoma City Thunder roster, with seven players sidelined due to injury (including team leaders Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook), the Thunder have obviously struggled and have started the season 2-5. With Durant and Westbrook missing 6-8 and 4-6 weeks respectively, OKC may struggle for quite some time, and it may be too late once they finally get healthy and playing well. So at what point does a team, known for its fantastic work in the draft, look at a season and say “we have a chance to get the next big thing in the draft, lets prepare for next season and scrap this one.” That may not be something last year’s MVP wants to hear, but the Thunder’s chances of winning a championship somewhat rely on this as they really need one more consistent player to make a serious run.
